Performance as Protest: Grieve into Love
16 Dec 2023, Steps of Hackney Town Hall, London

Grieve into love is a poetic act that draws on indigenous ancestral traditions for transforming grief. Over the course of one hour, musicians, singers, poets and artists weave together a sonic performance that imagines a new world. Audiences become participants, become instruments; clapping, chanting and singing along.

Grieve into Love is a collaboration with Patricia Puertas-Torrado (b. 1992, Colombia) during a two week artist residency at Arts Admin, with its first iteration taking place on the steps of Hackney Town Hall, East-London. The performance featured 27 creative practitioners and was followed by a silent march, at the end of which a choir receives and guides the audience in reconnecting with their voices through songs for Palestinian liberation written by Adrienne Maree Brown.
